How To Play Video Poker
Video Poker is a popular game that can be played in casinos across the world, or alternatively at home on your PC, through an Internet connection. The rules are very straightforward and involve the player attempting to get the highest combination of cards possible in order to win money. In this respect it is much the same as a normal game of poker, minus the interaction with other players. Of course, techniques used in a physical game of poker, such as bluffing, will be irrelevant here.
The game of Video Poker begins when the player inserts credit (either tokens, tickets or money) into the machine and presses the ‘play’, ‘deal’ or ‘draw’ button. A hand of five cards will then be electronically ‘dealt’ on the video screen.
The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and players should now choose which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the player wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they wish, from all to none.
After the player has chosen which cards he or she wishes to keep, they should press ‘deal’ or ‘draw’, at which point any new cards are dealt if desired. The game is now completed, with the Video Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands listed in the payment schedule.
Typically, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money increasing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It goes without saying that the payment schedule can vary from machine to machine, so that experienced players are able to choose the most profitable ones every time.
Once the initial round has finished, the player can either choose to stay on in an attempt to increase their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that have been won. Further, some versions of the game allow the player a chance to double their winnings, in which case a further game is played. There are also variations between individual machines, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other varying elements to increase playability.

Can you believe that it’s already been a whole entire year since the Nintendo Wii was released? In fact, at the time of this writing, it has now been officially more than one year! Feels like just yesterday, doesn’t it? Although the Wii has been out for more than a year, it doesn’t officially make it the oldest “next-gen” system. That spot actually belongs to the Xbox 360, which in comparison, is over two years old. The incredible thing about the Nintendo console is it’s undeniable success, and how fast it’s achieved it. To give you an idea of the measure of it’s success, although the Xbox 360 was released one year before the Wii, the Wii had officially passed it’s sales this year!
The success that this system has seen up to this point, has been completely unprecedented. This installation in the series has a sort of gritty realism that weighs on you as you play, you can really feel how important it is that Link save the world while you play.
2. Super Mario Galaxy – Galaxy takes the old Mario formula that we’ve come to know and love and throws it a curveball. Classic free-roaming Mario open world gameplay thrown into the middle of space. Mario has tons of new worlds to explore, bad guys to beat, and challenges to conquer as he chases Bowser through space to rescue the princess and the castle. Galaxy adds so much to the classic Mario formula that there are hours and hours of replay value built straight into the main story (even more if you like 100% completion on games).
3. Wii Sports – Wii Sports came bundled with the launch consoles, but if you bought any of the newer models, you really missed out! Wii Sports was a fun game that let you try your hand at boxing, bowling, tennis, baseball, and golf. It let you really get a feel for all of the features of the Wii and was surprisingly fun for being a piece of software that was packaged with the console. It’s a little tougher to find, but just looking at the hours I’ve spent perfecting my bowling throws alone, the game is 110% worth picking up if you have the chance.
Those are the top three titles that every Wii owner should have in their cabinet, but there are dozens upon dozens of amazing games for the Wii available today. If there are any of these three games that you don’t have on your shelf, do yourself a huge favor. Go out and pick them up today at your local game retailer (or online store) and I can guarantee that you’ll be glad you picked up these amazing classic games.
